35,000 saplings planted at PU over 7 years: VC

We have accommodated 1.8 million poor students at our 5,000 partner schools

More than 35,000 trees have been planted at the Punjab University over seven and-a-half-years, Vice Chancellor (VC) Mujahid Kamran said on Tuesday.


He was speaking at a ceremony in connection with National Tree Plantation Day. The PU College of Earth and Environmental Sciences (CEES) had arranged the event in collaboration with Rotary Club, Lahore Garrison. CEES Principal Sajid Rashid, Additional Registrar Kamran Abid, some faculty members and students were also present. Kamran said the PU administration believed in taking care of trees. Trees guarantee healthy life and maintain environmental balance. He launched a plantation campaign by planting a tree on the college’s lawns.

Later, Sajid Rashid led a rally from the college to the Department of Space Sciences to highlight importance of trees. He asked the media to play its role in creating awareness in this regard.

Ending poverty

The government is working to rid the country of poverty and unemployment, Punjab Education Foundation Chairman Qamarul Islam Raja said on Tuesday. He was speaking at a seminar, titled Professional Success: Tips and Tricks, at the PU Library and Information Science Department of University of the Punjab.Raja said government’s policies aimed at improving the quality of life by creating better opportunities for the educated youth. He said Rs258 billion had been allocated in the provincial budget for energy sector. Rs310 billion have been allocated for education sector, he said. “The future of Pakistan largely depends on the educated youth. They can help steer the country towards progress,” Raja said. He said the Punjab Education Foundation had been provided Rs10.5 billion to provide free education through its public-private partnership programmes.“We have accommodated 1.8 million poor students at our 5,000 partner schools.”

syed & syed | 8 years ago | Reply Planting 35,000 saplings in seven years and you call it achievement. Your students and all staff should have moved out from PU and should have planted 35 million in Pakistan.
