Preparations for Independence Day are complete in various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. A large number of vehicles, government buildings and houses have been decorated in green and white.

Nishat Chowk and Sohrab Chowk in Swat remained crowded on Thursday as people thronged to stalls selling Pakistani flags and stickers.

Khan Azam, the owner of a stall in Nishat Chowk, told The Express Tribune he plans to sell white and green t-shirts and national flags to nearly 0.1 million people this year.

Meanwhile, Asmat Akhun, a poultry shop owner, painted the cages at his shop green and white. “In the past, the security forces asked all poultry shop owners to paint the shops green. This year, I’ve painted the cages white and green of my own volition.”

Ceremonies have also been planned for the occasion. A three-day festival has been organised in Upper Dir whereas polo and football matches have also been arranged in Chitral.
