PESHAWAR:

The counter-terrorism department (CTD) arrested two extortionists from Haji Camp on Thursday.

According to a handout issued by the department, Essa Khan and Faizullah demanded Rs2 million in extortion money from a trader, Sirajul Islam.

“Both extortionists had been threatening Islam to pay the extortion money for over two months,” read the statement. “CTD officials successfully managed to arrest Faizullah. Subsequently, Essa’s whereabouts were traced and he was also taken into custody.”

According to the handout, Essa, a resident of Khyber Agency, is the “real culprit” behind the incident.

“The mobile phone and SIM card used to orchestrate the crime have also been recovered from Essa’s possession,” it added.

Over the past few weeks, CTD launched a crackdown against extortionists in various parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
