PESHAWAR: Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan said the relations of Pakistan and Iran have a historical background and both countries have a lot in common.

According to a handout issued on Saturday, acting Consul General of Iran Seyed Hamayun Amir Khalili called on the governor. Mehtab apprised the Iranian diplomat of the post-war scenario in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and the measures being taken for rehabilitation, stability and enhancement of income resources for the tribal population.

The governor lauded the success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and called upon the national and international community to extend their assistance and invest in Fata to improve the socio-economic condition of the tribespeople. “In the decade-long war against terrorism, millions of gallant tribesmen were displaced and their means of livelihood and education were destroyed,” he was quoted as saying. Mehtab said that a large number of initiatives, including construction of dams, irrigation projects, mineral exploration units, a marble city, solar systems and setting up of model schools have already started.

Khalili commended the efforts of Mehtab and said the people of Pakistan are as dear to him as the people of Iran. He assured full support and coordination in the constructive development of the region. “Formation of alliances in areas of mutual interest will continue to improve the brotherly relations between Iran and Pakistan,” he said.
