Bangladesh Board to dispatch security team to Pakistan ahead of women's tour

The series, which has been arranged through the efforts of PCB chairman Shahryar Khan, may take place in October

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will dispatch a team to Pakistan next week to ensure the security of their women’s team which is likely to tour Pakistan later this year, reported ESPNcricinfo. 

The women’s tour has become a possibility due to the efforts of Pakistan Cricket Board chairman, Shahryar Khan who visited Bangladesh last year.

BCB head Nizamuddin Chowdhury has stated that their security team will consist of maximum two people.

"Our security team will be going to Pakistan," said Chowdhury.

"We have informed our counterparts there, so it is in process. A date [of their departure] will be confirmed in a day or two. The tour could be in October."

To guarantee the safety of their players, the BCB had earlier sent a letter to the Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan to gain deeper insight in to the security situation. The inspection by the delegation is therefore, the second step.

"They [PCB] have sent us a proposal. Our women's team is getting restless to play abroad. Pakistan has given us an offer, we are thinking about it," he said.

"If everything is okay and the women's team agrees to go…there are a lot of factors left. It is still quite far away [from being finalised]."

In 2012, security personnel from the BCB had visited Pakistan but the proposed tour for the men's team in April was postponed for more than two years.

Pakistan has not hosted a full-member international team, except Zimbabwe, since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team.
