PESHAWAR:

Members of the United Municipal Workers (UMW) Union have threatened to close their offices until the provincial government does not keep its promise to promote them.

This was said by representatives of the union during a protest held on GT Road on Tuesday. At least 400 employees gathered at JI’s provincial headquarters, Al-Markaz-e-Islam, to protest against the provincial government’s failure to promote municipal workers. The workers plan to protest outside the local council office for three days.

UMW Union President Mushtaq Masih said if their demands are not met, they will disconnect the water supply system of the city and boycott the Clean and Green Peshawar drive.

UMW Union General Secretary Muhammad Fazil told The Express Tribune Minister for Finance Muzaffar Said had assured municipal employees that their problems would be resolved soon. “However, a year has passed and they have not been promoted,” Fazil added.
