ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) was directed to promote the Information Technology industry aggressively over the next five years and exceed IT exports target of $6 billion by 2020.

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Anusha Rehman, who chaired the 30th meeting of the PSEB’s Board of Directors here on Thursday, said reporting of IT exports needs to be improved because the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) remittance figures are below actual exports of the  IT industry.

Rehman said this hurts the perception of the size of Pakistan’s IT industry with foreign customers and hence, IT companies need to improve their reporting to PSEB and SBP if they want Pakistan to be taken seriously as a major player in the global market.

The meeting was held to assess the state of the IT industry and evaluate steps being taken to bolster long term growth and to attract investment in the IT sector.
