Tragedy strikes: One killed, six injured in Shangla

SHANGLA: A man was killed while six others were injured in separate incidents in Shangla district on Thursday.

A motorcyclist lost his life when a dumper-truck hit his vehicle in Ranyal within the jurisdiction of Karora police station.

Karora police station SHO Bakht Zamin Khan told The Express Tribune that Hamim Muhammad, a resident of Sangrai, was on his way to Karora when a speeding dumper rammed into his motorcycle.

“Muhammad died on the spot,” the SHO said. “Bakht Zari, who was driving the dumper, managed to escape. We have impounded his vehicle and registered a case against him.”

Further investigation into the incident is under way.

Chairlift accident

In a separate incident, four people were wounded in a chairlift accident within the jurisdiction of Besham police station. According to Besham SHO Shah Hussain Khan, the injured have been identified as Gul Samina, Bibi Rehmat, Pervez, Ahmad, Tar Khan and Sabiha.

“They were going from Bazang area of Battagram to Besham,” he said. “All six people slipped and fell off the chairlift as it entered Besham.”

The SHO said locals rushed the injured to Besham Hospital. A case has been registered against the incident.Chairlifts have become the only mode of transportation after a link bridge connecting these areas was washed away by floods some years ago.
