KARACHI: The Sindh Police department announced the appointment of police inspectors as chiefs to six police stations on Monday. Meanwhile a list of around two dozen police station chiefs has been prepared, who are likely to be suspended, reverted or dismissed from service over the next few days.

According to a notification issued on Monday, six station house officers (SHOs) were appointed in different police stations across the city. Shafiqur Rehman was appointed as Frere SHO, Muhammad Hamid as Korangi SHO, Faiz Ali as Sharafi Goth SHO, Tanvir Murad as SITE A-Section police station, Zaheer Mahesar as Pakistan Bazaar police station and Sabir Khattak as Mominabad police station SHO. All six SHOs, with the rank of sub-inspectors, had no criminal record. They replaced the SHOs who were punished for having links with political parties and criminals, or were involved in criminal activities.

Earlier, 41 police personnel, who were posted to District West, were given minor to major punishments, including dismissal from the service on charges of misuse of power, dereliction from duty, corruption and involvement in criminal activities and links with criminals. Besides cuts in salaries and cap on annual increment, punishments included termination and dismissal from service. Nearly half-a-dozen SHOs were also suspended and dismissed by the then Karachi Additional IG Ghulam Qadir Thebo.

These policemen are being punished on the basis of an inquiry report prepared by the then DIG of Rapid Response Force (RRF) Dr Aftab Pathan.

Sources privy to the matter told The Express Tribune that a list of around two dozen more SHOs has been prepared who are likely to be punished soon. The suspected officials include Naik Muhammad Jakhrani, Asif Munawar, Inam Junejo, Muhammad Ejaz, Aurangzeb Khattak, Irshad Gabol, Khalid Javed, Chaudhry Afzal, Zawwar Hussain, Shahzad Ilyas, Shabbir Mustafa, Inayat Marwat, Sajid Javed and Humayyun Khan.
