HANGU: The political administration of Kurram Agency and army has urged tribal elders to shun sectarianism and old enmities to sustain peace and stability in the region.
This was said during a grand jirga of tribes from Central Kurram Agency in Hangu on Friday. The event was organised by political administration and Pakistan Army to maintain peace and stability in the region.
Tribal elders from various parts of the agency attended the occasion. Political administration officials and army personnel were also present. The jirga was presided over by Political Agent Muhammad Arshad.
“The region has now been cleared of militants,” said the political agent. “Now, it is up to the tribal elders to cooperate with the government to maintain peace in the region.”
During the event, tribal elders lauded the efforts made by the political administration and Pakistan Army to restore peace in the region.
Restoring connections
The political agent also announced the road connecting Hangu and Kohat to Central Kurram Agency will be open for traffic for eight hours a day.
“The road has been closed for the last eight years,” he said. “We will now re-open the road from 7am to 3pm. Passenger buses will be allowed to access the route and receive protection from the army.”
