KARACHI:

It has been almost 11 years since Farhan Saeed became part of the Pakistani music industry — but it is only now that the singer and recently-turned-actor has started viewing things from a different perspective — something which is evident with his latest music video Tu Thori Dair.

The music video became a major point of heated discussion on the social media forum not because it starred the singer opposite his real-life love-interest Urwa Hocane, but also because it’s a true depiction of the travails every soldier experiences. Tu Thori Dair shows the life of a newly-wed soldier (Farhan) who is forced to leave his wife (Urwa) behind on the wedding night after he is called for duty.

“I was penning the lyrics Tu Thodi Daer Hor Tehar Ja and I had this feeling that a soldier would fit perfectly in the picture. That’s the kind of impact that a song like this should has,” Saeed tells The Express Tribune.

Although the audio of the song was released about a year and a half ago, Farhan said that despite his eagerness to execute his plan through his video, not many people took keen interest until the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) decided to back the project. “When they first heard my plan they were taken aback as most of the songs that they had done previously were upbeat patriotic songs. But I was fortunate that they agreed and came on board.”

Not a stranger to the craft of acting, Farhan like various other Pakistani musicians, is gradually tilting towards acting for the big screen after making his TV debut with De Ijazat Jo Tu. As offers continue to pour in, he felt that it was the right time to start laying the foundation of his acting career. “It’s not that I am acting because I need to, it’s because I enjoy it.” He also spoke about his plans to enter Bollywood saying, “I was approached by Mithun Chakraborty Films but I didn’t accept the offer as it was the role of a second lead.”

Primarily known for his vocal prowess than his acting stints, Farhan stressed on the importance of finding the right balance between the two. “I want to keep on making music. Even now, I am doing playback singing for several films and TV serials, including a Mohit Suri film. I have also done seven tracks for a musical drama serial in which I am playing the lead role.”

Saeed, who has never been candid about his relationship, also opened up about his equation with VJ-turned-actor Urwa Hocane. “Everything is on social media and we’ve never hidden anything from anyone. Whenever we take our relationship to the next level, we’ll definitely share it with everyone.” Without mentioning personal details any further, he revealed that the both of them will soon be seen in a TV serial together.

With multiple projects in his kitty, it would not be surprising to see him dominate TV screens and music charts in the near future.
