KARACHI: Around 1.6 million people in the country are suffering from some kind of eye condition and are at risk of losing their eyesight, said Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) president and senior eye specialist Dr Misbahul Aziz. Addressing the doctors and paramedics treating patients at an eye camp organised by Prevention of Blindness (POB) Trust, which is a subsidiary of PIMA, he said it is the collective responsibility of doctors and the civil society to help patients with limited resources. He appreciated their efforts in facilitating free-of-charge surgeries to prevent and control blindness and visual impairment. Aziz added that POB has been working since July, 2007, for the cause and has saved numerous people with limited resources from permanent blindness.
