Terrorism: LeJ militant remanded in police custody

Alleged Lashkar-i-Jhangvi militant charged with intended murder, assault on police and possession of explosives.

KARACHI: A court remanded alleged Lashkar-i-Jhangvi militant Khalil Baloch into police custody for questioning till December 21. Baloch was presented in court on Thursday amid tight security. He has been charged with intended murder, assault on police and possession of explosives. Police told the court that they had found around 200 kilogrammes of explosives with the help of the suspect. They want to interrogate him further because they think he will be able to divulge information on where his accomplices are hiding. The police had asked for 14 days of remand but the court allowed them to keep Baloch in custody till December 21. The police had claimed Baloch was arrested on December 15 after an encounter.

Rangers search hotels

The Rangers are conducting search operations in hotels and wayside motels for Muharram security. They searched rooms and interrogated the hotel staff along with passengers arriving from other cities. Fort SHO Abrar Ahmed explained that all these measures were being taken to ensure security during Ashura. Our Correspondent
