Preparedness: Irrigation Dept set to deal with floods

Instructions have been issued to remove encroachments on water channels, the spokesperson said

LAHORE: The Irrigation Department has tasked the Flood Management Cell with monitoring water flow in the rivers during monsoon. The cell, formed on the instructions of Irrigation Secretary Saif Anjum, has been working in close liaison with Irrigation Department’s field engineers, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, the Water and Power Development Authority, the Met Office and the district governments. Anjum has made Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority Deputy General Manager Afzal Anjum the focal person for providing assistance to irrigation authorities. A spokesperson for the Irrigation Department said arrangements had been made in view of last year’s floods in several parts of the country. Instructions have been issued to remove encroachments on water channels, the spokesperson said.
