LAHORE: A show cause notice was issued to Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general Ahad Cheema on Friday, asking him to justify why contempt-of-court proceedings should not be initiated against him for not appearing from the court during the hearing of a petition.

Earlier, the LDA counsel had told the court that Cheema could not appear because he was unwell. However, a provincial law officer said that the LDA director had gone to Islamabad.

Justice Farrukh Irfan Khan, however, took exception to the conflicting statements and observed that the court knew how to ensure implementation of its orders.

Issuing a show-cause notice, the judge asked the DG LDA to explain his absence at the next hearing.
