DI KHAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Revenue Ali Amin Gandapur was released on bail on Wednesday in two separate cases registered against him.
Insiders familiar with the matter told The Express Tribune Gandapur appeared before a judicial magistrate in DI Khan and who accepted his bail plea in both cases.
A day earlier, Gandapur had been handed over to the police for a one-day judicial remand.
Separate charges
On Tuesday, the court heard both cases. In the first case, the PTI minister was charged with abusing and threatening a police official. The judicial magistrate handed Gandapur over to police custody for a day.
The second case concerned the PTI minister’s attempts to interfere with the electoral process. In this case, the judicial magistrate sent him to jail on judicial remand as well.
Course of events
Gandapur is accused of allegedly abusing and threatening police officials and interrupting the vote counting process by stealing ballot boxes from Hemath Adda polling station on Sunday.
However, police lacked sufficient evidence against the PTI minister. According to a statement given by Shabana, a returning officer at a polling station in DI Khan, Gandapur was only assisting polling staff in shifting ballot boxes to a safe location.
On Monday, DI Khan police raided the PTI minister’s house but didn’t find him. However, nearly three hours later, DI Khan DPO Sadiq Baloch said the revenue minister had handed himself over to the police.
