LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought a report from the Nawab Town police in a petition seeking directives for the police to register an FIR against a veterinary doctor on charges of deliberately killing a pet cat. The court issued the order in an application filed by Dr Atia Masood seeking early hearing of her main petition. The hearing was later adjourned till June 17. Petitioner Dr Masood, an assistant professor at the Punjab University, had requested that the police be directed to file a case against the veterinary doctor, Dr  Awais Anees, under Section 429 (killing or maiming an animal) of the Pakistan Penal Code for administering excessive drug dose to the cat, causing its death. Talking to the media on Tuesday, the petitioner said she had been fond of her cat. She said she had buried the animal at her mother’s home in Karachi. “I plan to visit the place every week,” she added.
