Fatal Virus: Naegleria finds 6th victim in Karachi

The health department has also confirmed the death

KARACHI: The deadly brain-eating amoeba claimed the life of a 22-year-old man, bringing the death toll for this year to six. Muallam, a resident of MPR Colony, Orangi Town, died of naegleria fowleri in Civil Hospital, Karachi. He was brought to the hospital two days ago with a high temperature. Initial test reports revealed that Muallam was infected with naegleria. The health department has also confirmed the death. Karachi health director Dr Zafar Ejaz said that water samples have been obtained from MPR Colony. He added that the water of the area has been chlorinated following the death. Last year, 14 lives were claimed by the water-borne disease.
