A newlywed was killed and his mother and a passer-by were injured over a marriage dispute in Jhang Bazaar area on Friday.


The Jhang Bazaar SHO told The Express Tribune that 28-year-old Muhammad Ahmad had married Sania, a resident of Madina Town, for love some three months ago. He said the woman’s parents were unhappy with the marriage. He said they had threatened the couple with dire consequences several times. He said on Friday, two armed men riding a motorbike came to Badar Colony and knocked at the door Ahmad’s house, saying they wanted to meet him.

He said they men shot him when he opened the door. The SHO said one of the gunmen said entered the house and searched for his wife. He said when he could not find her, he shot Nasreen Bibi, Ahmad’s mother, and fled.The SHO said the gunman also shot Imran, a neighbour, on his way out.

The SHO said the injured were taken to a hospital where Ahmad died.
