Two men associated with PPP killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Two men associated with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) were shot dead in Malir town area of Karachi on Friday evening.

The men, along with nearly half a dozen party workers, were sitting near Bakra Piri in Malir when unknown armed assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at them.

The attack left PPP’s PS-127 secretary information Sharif Lashari and Anwar Bhutto seriously injured.

They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but succumbed to their injuries on the way.

Malir City SHO Faisal Khan said police had collected empty bullet shells used in the incident, while further investigation is underway.

The PPP strongly condemned the incident, and announced one-day mourning in Karachi. Party leader Najmi Alam said their workers were being targeted as the PPP was playing its role in eliminating terror from the city.

No case of the attack had been registered till the filing of this report.

Earlier on May 16, Mujahid Jan, brother of Habib Jan, the chairman of the Friends of Lyari group was shot dead in Lyari. He was a senior member of the PPP in Lyari and played a vital role in the now defunct Peoples Aman Committee.

This was weeks after MPA and Sindh Minister for Kutchi Abadis, Akbar Nagori, the brother of PPP MPA Javed Nagori, was killed from firing in the violence-stricken neighbourhood.
