ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said on Tuesday that the present government was a people-friendly dispensation as it had taken several steps to provide relief to the common man during the past one year.
Talking to the media after attending a conference on interfaith harmony, he said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had a track record of pro-people policies. It had served the masses in the past and would follow the same policies in future too, he added.
Replying to a question, he said the budget for next year will be presented on June 5, and would also be people-friendly like the current fiscal year.
He said that although petroleum prices had fallen in the international market, many countries did not pass on the impact to the consumers, neighbouring India being one such example. But Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he added, decided that the total impact of reduced prices of petroleum products should be passed on to the consumers. As a result, the power tariff fell, while the impact was also visible on the prices of several items which decreased with reduced transportation cost.
He added that during the last year, US dollar depreciated against Pakistani rupee, a result of prudent economic policies of the present government.
Initiating projects to generate more electricity, steps to import gas and launching Metro Bus projects were all people-friendly initiatives as they would not only provide relief to the masses but also generate more jobs, he concluded.
