MARDAN:


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Mardan on Wednesday to offer condolences on the death of Awami National Party leader Muhammad Azam Khan Hoti, who passed away last month.


During the brief visit, the premier, who was accompanied by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) governor and members of his immediate political coterie met with the veteran leader’s son, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and offered fateha for the departed soul.


Praising Hoti, who passed away in April after a protracted battle with cancer, Nawaz said that the country had lost a true politician and his services would be remembered. Azam Hoti was the father of former K-P chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and brother of Begum Naseem Wali Khan.


ANP leaders Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour and Haji Adeel were present on the occasion. Shortly after the meeting, the premier and members of his entourage were whisked away under a blanket of security to the airport.
