Maldives president arrives in Islamabad on two-day visit

Maldivian president to hold talks with PM and President; cooperation agreements in various sectors expected

Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom arrived in Islamabad today on a two-day state visit, Radio Pakistan reported.

President Maldives was welcomed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and members of the cabinet on his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase. A 21-gun salute was given to the distinguished guests when he alighted from his aircraft.

Two children presented bouquets to the President of Maldives.

The Maldivian president will hold talks with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and President Mamnoon Hussain. It is expected that the two sides will sign a number of documents on cooperation in various sectors including health, education, narcotics trafficking and sports.

According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) press release, the visit is taking place at the invitation of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the Maldives,” the statement added.
