BADIN: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday extended former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza’s protective bail till May 9.

Further, the court ordered the concerned DIG to provide police escort to the former home minister when travelling to the anti-terrorism court in Badin.

Sindh government also assured Mirza that he won’t be arrested before May 9.

After the order passed by a bench headed by Chief Justice Faisal Arab, Mirza’s lawyer did not further press his contempt plea against the home secretary, IG and other police officials.

The former home minister had sought contempt proceedings against the home secretary, police chief and his subordinates for not letting him leave for the anti-terrorism court despite grant of ‘protective bail.’

Mirza said the heavy police contingent besieged his residence and directed him not to leave for the anti-terrorism court to join criminal proceedings initiated against him.

On Monday, the Sindh High Court had granted him ‘protective bail’ against a surety of Rs 100,000 in each case.

His lawyer Ashraf Samon filed contempt plea, stating police authorities deliberately disobeyed the court. He pleaded to initiate contempt proceedings against the home and police authorities and punish them accordingly.

Earlier today, security forces deployed around former home minister Zulfiqar Mirza's farmhouse in Badin were removed.

Police was stationed around the Mirza farmhouse after the former home minister stormed the Model police station on May 3 along with his supporters, abused the officials and damaged furniture for filing a case against Nadeem Mughal.

Police arrived at government primary and middle school and occupied two rooms, one of them being a computer lab in Badin. More than 250 school children attend the school and were present at the arrival of police.

Sources further revealed that police personnel have been stationed outside Mirza's farmhouse, even though the Sindh High Court granted him 'protective bail' on Monday.

Mirza's lawyer has filed a request pertaining to his house being surrounded adding that the former minister should be granted 'protective bail' in all the cases against him.

The lawyer also said that his client can only attend court hearings if the police force is removed from his house.

Most if not all PPP leaders around Zardari are extremely corrupt and mafia like. Sharjeel Memon, Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, Anwar Majeed and so on. This man should be protected and cases need to filed against all those who Mirza is accusing, a through JIT needs to be instituted and all these filthy people should be hanged from the streets.
