PESHAWAR: A committee has been formed to examine the issue of illegal appointments in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Workers Welfare Board.

According to a handout issued by the information directorate Saturday evening, the government-constituted committee will also be mandated to take action against those responsible.

It said that a notification issued by the K-P welfare board secretary stated that the committee members include the minister for labour, the secretary labour, the secretary of the WWB, and others.

The National Accountability Bureau had sent a letter to the labour secretary asking him to look into the appointments made in the board since 2007. The handout added that NAB had accused the former labour minister of misusing his authority. These appointments ranged from Class-IV to basic pay scale-18 and had been made against the WWB governing rules.

The handout added that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has termed the demands of contract employees of the WWB “undue and illegal.” The CM had said their contracts will only be extended if the employees qualify after undertaking required tests.

The information directorate communiqué quoted the CM as saying the government will not be blackmailed through protests and will stick to its policy of merit.
