KARACHI: Bangladesh etched their name in the books of history with the first-ever ODI series win over Pakistan on Sunday as Tamim Iqbal's century helped the hosts beat the visitors by seven wickets in Mirpur.

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali won the toss and elected to bat first but his new-face Pakistan team made him stand in Misbah's shoes after quick loses.

Pakistan's half team was back in the pavillion with 77 runs on the board when Haris Sohail (44) and Saad Nasim (77*) took a stand for the men in green with a 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

After Haris was caught and bowl by Mashrafe Murtaza, Wahab Riaz (51*) joined Saad and they took the team's total to 239 runs at the end of 50 overs. Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets for the hosts.

In their chase, Bangladesh lost Soumya Sarkar (17) early when he was caught behind off Junaid Khan but after that it was a smooth sail for the hosts.

Tamim Iqbal, riding on his magnificent form from the last ODI where he scored a century, was in no mood to leave the crease easily.

He, together with Mahmudullah (17) and then Mushfiqur Rahim (65) cruised to the relatively easy target and made sure that his team crossed the line with him in the picture.

"I am very happy", said Tamim. "The boys performed really well and it was a combined effort including the coaching staff as well."

"I was not scoring runs and I said to myself that I have to get some runs."
