Police say 'robber' attempted to escape arrest by jumping into drain; dceased's family claim he was tortured, killed

ISLAMABAD: The handcuffed body of a suspected robber was found in a sewerage drain in Islamabad, Express News reported on Sunday. 

According to reports, the body was discovered in a drain near a police station in the I9 sector by residents of the area.

It was later handed over to the police who identified the deceased as an accused robber, Farmaan Arif Bora, who tried to escape police custody by jumping in the drain.

During investigation, Bora's relatives claimed that he was tortured by the police, who then threw him in the drain to cover the murder.

Sources said, upon being informed about the incident, SSP Operations Islamabad immediately ordered the transfer of the SHO of the police station.

Further, family members of Bora insisted that an FIR be lodged against the investigation officers under whose custody Bora was in.
