Youhanabad riots: Woman driver granted bail

Maryam earlier submitted that the case registered against her was based on malafide

LAHORE: A woman accused of running her car over two people and injuring 12 during a riot in Youhanabad was granted bail on Saturday, Express News reported. 

A day after the March 15 attacks on Lahore's Christian community, riots broke out which Maryam Safdar was trying to escape. Safdar allegedly ran over 12 people of whom two died.

Maryam earlier submitted that the case registered against her was based on malafide. She said nothing in particular had been attributed to her in the FIR and therefore she should be granted pre-arrest bail.

She further assured the court that she would cooperate with the investigating team.

Today, she was granted bail after being ordered to submit a total Rs100,000.
