ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ordered on Tuesday authorities to constitute a task force working with the judicial commission to probe the alleged rigging of the May 2013 general elections, Express News reported.

Khalid Anwar, Khawaja Haris, Ashtarusaf Ali and Makhdoom Ali Khan are to be appointed as members of the task force on the orders of the prime minister.

PM Nawaz, Khawaja Zaheer and Ahmed Barrister Zafarullah will also be supporting the force.

The force is expected to address objections raised by the opposition parties.

'ECP responsible for holding  free and fair elections'

Separately, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen said it is the responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to ensure that free and fair elections are held in the country.

Addressing the media before holding a meeting the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), he said the ECP should be granted more powers and be more independent.

With regards to NA-246 by-elections, Tareen said the electoral body should carry out an investigation into the failure of electronic voting system in the 2013 general elections.

"We are pleased to hear that Secretary ECP will be visiting Karachi  and direct the authorities to probe into the matter," he said, adding that he will be meeting Rangers, police and administrative authorities in this regard.

He also said that magisterial powers have been given to the Rangers so that the elections are held without any hurdles.

Man | 9 years ago | Reply @Anarchist: PMLn's team will clarify to ECP party position on objections/ evidences alleged/ provided by other political parties. It will not give proof of rigging. Please read the article thoroughly before commenting.
Anarchist | 9 years ago | Reply @H Chaudhry: JC has asked parties to submit evidence of rigging. Of course, NS can submit evidence. I am not objecting to that. My point is that he is the one who said 2013 elections were the most transparent and fair. By submitting evidence of rigging, is not he discrediting his earlier position? Or is his team going to defend that no rigging took place? In that case, I am wrong. Hope you understood my poing and next time please do read carefully before you respond.
