KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Ltd set up the first-ever police station dedicated to penalise miscreants involved in the theft of natural gas.

The police station was jointly inaugurated by SSGC managing director Khalid Rahman and West DIG Feroze Shah on Friday. It has been set up to curb the menace of gas theft, which is one of the primary reasons for unaccounted for gas — a phenomenon that has affected the company's financial bottom line.

Now that the police station has been set up, raids will be conducted against gas thieves, FIRs will be registered, evidence will be collected and challans will be presented before courts.

The police station was established due to the efforts and constant patronage of Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali, West DIG Feroze Shah and Central SSP Nauman Siddiqui. Rangers DG Major General Bilal Akhtar also showed the paramilitary force's keenness in supporting the efforts of SSGC in bringing the gas thieves to book.
