MULTAN:

Dera Ghazi Khan police claimed to have arrested two people for setting a woman alight on Saturday.

The woman was taken to the trauma centre at the Dera Ghazi Khan DHQ hospital and later to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

Police said 50-year-old Shahida Parveen, a resident of Samina Road, had had an argument with her husband Ghulam Rasool. Police said the mother of 9 complained that they could not make both ends meet. They said Rasool poured kerosene oil on her and set her alight.

Police said according to Parveen, her daughter-in-law Rehana had helped Rasool.

Doctors at Nishtar Medical Hospital said she was in critical condition. They said she had suffered 70 per cent burns.

Police lodged an FIR under Section 324/34 of Pakistan Penal Code against Rehana and Rasool. Rasool was arrested soon after.
