Cantonment polls: Boards issue final lists of vying candidates

60 candidates have filed papers for five councillor seats in the provincial capital alone

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s 10 cantonment boards have issued the final lists of candidates participating in the April 25 polls.


60 candidates have filed papers for five councillor seats in the provincial capital alone, while 21 are running for Risalpur’s three seats and seven eye Mardan’s two positions. Meanwhile, authorities of the remaining are yet to issue candidature statistics.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Peshawar cantonment’s spokesperson said the first step of nomination has been completed, adding scrutiny of papers will begin from Thursday (today). The spokesperson said board CEO-cum-RO Muhammad Saleem Hassan Wattoo will head the scrutiny committee while DEO Bismillah Jan and assistant system analyst Imran Abbas will assist him.

Meanwhile, RO Risalpur Muhammad Abdullah said Muhammad Saeed Khan, Asghar Khan, Abid Kaleem, Tariq Iqbal, Zar Hayat, Karmat Khan, Muhammad Adnan Qureshi, Miss Razia Seema and Muhammad Hafiz are vying for Ward-I, Zahir Shah, Sajjad Ahmad, Abu Momin and Sayed Nadeem Shah for Ward-II and Sultan Khan, Nasar Khan, Sikandar Khan, Khawaja Khalil, Ahmad Gul Zaman, Aurangzaib, Haq Nawaz and Muhammad are Ward-III’s aspiring candidates.

RO Mardan Naheed Rai Kharal said candidates should declare their political affiliation before the committees and submit an affidavit along with nomination papers. He said Bashir Zada, Tariq Khan, Muhammad Iqbal and Muhammad Arif have submitted papers for Ward-I.
