ISLAMABAD: The federal government approved a Rs1.36 billion public sector dental hospital and dental college for Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) on Tuesday. The project was approved in a Central Development Working Party meeting, chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, according to a press release. SZABMU Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram, who is also head of Pims, said after the meeting that almost 300 patients are visiting the Pims dentistry department on a daily basis and rough estimates suggest that the new facility would allow them to handle over 108,000 patients every year. The new public sector dentistry hospital, he said, would also open new avenues for local and international researchers, other than the provision of dental treatment.
