MARDAN:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday unleashed a fresh salvo at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, accusing him of receiving kickbacks and commissions in contracts for mega infrastructure projects in the country.

“We are striving to create awareness in society and bring positive changes in its thinking, whereas he [Nawaz Sharif] is concerned with his commission from the Rs50 billion Metro Bus project,” he said while addressing a function in Mardan. “There is a huge difference in the thinking of Nawaz Sharif and that of PTI,” he added.

The function was arranged in connection with computerisation of land records at Mardan, the first of its kind initiative in the country. Appreciating the step, Imran said that “it will put an end to the culture of corruption and bribery, as well to disputes over lands amongst relatives.” He termed it a step forward towards the PTI’s crusade for a corruption-less society in the country.

Imran said similar steps had already been initiated within health and education departments where a biometric system was introduced for ensuring attendance of concerned staff. He said that after Lahore, the construction of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital in Peshawar was in its final stages.

The PTI chief further said that for putting an end to politics in universities and the provincial government was working on a system regarding postings and appointments of vice chancellors through known educationist Dr Atta Ur Rahman.  Under such a system, appropriate steps will be initiated for reforms in the existing university system. A well planned system will be evolved for monitoring academic and administrative activities in universities.

Criticising Premier Nawaz, Imran said, “The Sharif brothers are consuming all resources on roads and buildings and getting a huge amount in commission from Metro Bus services.”
