Dr Enam added that these operation theatres will not only be helpful in providing better health facilities to the AKUH patients but also give their students more exposure.

KARACHI: With three new operation theatres, the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) patients will have fewer chances of contracting an infection during a surgery.

"The facilities provided in these theatres will make operations much easier and there will be less chances of infections," said Dr Athar Enam, AKUH surgery department head, adding that these theatres are the best in the world. The state-of-the-art facilities, spread over 9,600 square-feet, were inaugurated on Friday morning. The facility also includes six recovery rooms, a holding bay for four patients, a room for families and other spaces.

Dr Enam added that these operation theatres will not only be helpful in providing better health facilities to the AKUH patients but also give their students more exposure.

The facilities have been built from an aid of $3.35 million that were donated by businessman Bashir Dawood. "I am happy to be a part of this struggle," he said, adding that he had complete trust in the hospital administration. He added that this expansion in healthcare facilities will transform many lives.

AKUH president Firoz Rasul spoke about how the hospital had planned to collect $25 million in 24 months. "I feel happy to announce today that, because of the help we receive from our generous donors, we have collected $28 million in just 18 months," he said.

With the addition of these theatres, Rasul hoped the hospital will be able to give better health and education facilities to the patients and students.
