Polio worker shot dead, another injured in Bajaur agency

Miscreants flee the area; no group has claimed responsibility for the attack

BAJAUR AGENCY: A polio worker was killed and another injured on Wednesday in an attack on a polio team in Bajaur Agency.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on the team in Nawagai sub division of the agency killing Rooh ullah and injuring Arif ullah.

"Arif ullah is out danger," a health official at Nawagai hospital confiremed.

The miscreants reportedly managed to escape unhurt.

According to the area's political administration, police cordoned off the area soon after the incident and carried out a search operation.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

As many as 223460 children are supposed to be immunised against polio in the three-day long polio campaign. Around 628 polio teams, 1400 health workers are working as a part of the campaign.

Just yesterday, at least three people, including two lady health workers, were also killed when unidentified assailants opened fire at a polio team near an Afghan refugee camp on the outskirts of Mansehra city.

The deceased also included a police constable, DPO Ejaz Khan.
