KARACHI:

The annual 'Aalmi Mushaira' will be held at the Karachi Hockey Ground in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on March 21. The event, which has been held for the last 26 years, will feature poets from Canada, United States, UAE, Saudi Arabia, India and Pakistan.

The programme was announced by Aalmi Mushaira's convener Mehmood Ahmed Khan in a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday. "In societies where people don't have a love for literature, terrorism prevails," he said, emphasising the need to promote literature. He hoped the mushaira will help promote peace and love among the people. The organisers have invited vice-chancellors, principals and students of all universities and colleges to encourage maximum participation.

Ahmed disclosed that visas had been issued to all the visiting poets, but the committee was still having trouble with the finances since the estimated cost was around Rs2 million. He said that all the members had given Rs5,000 each to cover the expenses but they were still looking for sponsors.
