Bollywood actor and Padma Shri award winner, Saif Ali Khan remains under scrutiny after India's Union Home Ministry asked Mumbai Police to expedite the completion of a report pertaining to an alleged brawl the actor had in a restaurant,  India Today reported.

The report which has been pending for the past seven months was sought following a complaint from an RTI (Right To Information) activist who demanded that Khan be stripped off a coveted civic honour, the Padma Shri, in wake of reported framing charges against the actor by a Mumbai court.

"As regard to Saif Ali Khan, no response to this Ministry's letter No 1/3112014-Public dated August 20, 2014 has been received from Mumbai Police. Mumbai Police has been reminded to expedite the matter...," the Ministry said in a response to activist Subhash Agrawal.

Agrawal had approached Home Ministry with a complaint alleging that charges were framed against Khan by a Mumbai court therefore he no longer deserves the Padma Shri title.

"The film actor is already facing several other criminal cases against him. He was recommended for Padma awards by the 'Awards Committee' without mentioning the name of the committee member who recommended him," Agrawal had alleged.

He had demanded that Home Ministry should take back Padma award not only from Saif Ali Khan but also from other such controversial recipients of the honour.

Based on his complaint, the Ministry has sent a letter to Mumbai Police seeking a report on Khan.
