Encounters and raids: Two ‘gang members’ killed during shoot-out

A dozen suspects arrested in targeted raids by law enforcement agencies.

KARACHI: Two suspected gang members were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Lyari on Friday. Meanwhile, around a dozen suspects were arrested in a series of targeted raids in the city.

The police shot and killed two suspected gang members during an alleged encounter in Lyari. Police officials claimed that the encounter took place when they conducted a raid at a hideout in Daryabad, adding that the criminals attempted to flee after opening fire upon them. The police retaliated, killing two gang members. The bodies were taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi, for autopsy, where they were identified as Jabbar Dada and Hafiz Chawanni. According to the police, Jabbar and Hafiz belonged to Lyari's Baba Ladla gang and were involved in various cases of crime.

Separately, around a dozen suspects were detained during a series of targeted raids by law enforcement agencies in Bilal Colony, Awami Colony, Gulbahar and Jamshed Quarters. Those arrested included Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militants, Lyari gang members and kidnappers.

Separately, two siblings were killed while their parents were injured when the roof of their house collapsed on them in the rain on Friday.

The deceased were identified as 16-year-old Faizan and his sister Sania, 13, while Rubi, 38, and Suleman, 42, were injured.
