Breaking the law: PESCO arrests 42 for stealing electricity

A Pesco special magistrate has recovered Rs2.8 million from them.

In a crackdown against power pilferage, Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) arrested 42 people from the provincial capital and registered FIRs against them.


According to a statement issued by the utility on Monday, the accused were detained by Pesco checking teams working alongside the police for hooking illegal connections to main supply lines.


The suspects were arrested from Gulshanabad, Bahadar Kalay, Hassanzai Tehkal, Urmar Bala, Khari Qila, Qazi Kalay, Jhagra, Chughal Pura, Scheme Chowk, Pishtakhara Payan, Shahab Khel, Pawaka, Misrizai, Mathra, Faisal Colony, Dalazak Road, Afridi Ghari, Bilal Colony, Charkhana Road and Hayatabad.


The Pesco statement added cases have been registered against the accused and a Pesco special magistrate has recovered Rs2.8 million from them.


Moreover, the utility warned power thieves to stop stealing electricity as it is causing huge losses to the exchequer and overloading the distribution system, resulting in frequent outages and breakdowns.
