KARACHI: Softlan, a fabric conditioner brand, hosted session on breast cancer awareness in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Pakistan at Colgate-Palmolive Head Office for Lakson Group employees. According to a press release, the session highlighted the importance of promoting awareness among females in Pakistan. A series of activities are also being conducted in order to raise as much awareness as possible.

The participants were briefed on some alarming factual statistics. Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer among all the Asian countries. Every 1 out of 9 female in Pakistan is at risk to suffer from this killer disease. According to Sonia Qaiser, Pink Ribbon Pakistan’s representative, almost 90,000 cases are diagnosed every year, out of which only 50,000 survive. “Unfortunately, social taboos, myths and illiteracy are a great hindrance in early detection, which impedes diagnosis and treatment,” she said.

She stressed how better education/awareness of the disease and a healthy diet helps reduce risk of breast cancer.

The first noticeable symptom of breast cancer is typically a lump that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue. A worldwide annual campaign involving thousands of organizations, to highlight the importance of breast awareness, education and research is organized every year. Many celebrities and renowned personalities endorse the color ‘Pink’ to support this cause.

Male and female employees of the organization were seen wearing pink in their support. An interesting quiz was also conducted towards the end of the session and prizes were handed over to the winners.
