Nawaz reviews national security in meeting with chairman JCSC

PM was also briefed on nuclear power program by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday reviewed the overall national security situation and professional matters related to the armed forces in a meeting with Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood.

The premier expressed grief over the losses caused by the recent rains in various parts of the country. He deplored the loss of valuable lives.

Nawaz directed the provincial and local authorities to take preemptive measures for food mitigation, and provide immediate relief to people wherever it is needed.

He also directed health authorities to keep a close watch on the possibility of an outbreak of any epidemic in the rain-affected areas.

PM briefed on nuclear program

The premier was also given a briefing on the nuclear power program by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

Matters relating to the K2 and K3 power projects, as well as future projects, which are being planned came under discussion.

PM Nawaz said the provision of funds for these projects would be arranged in line with the NPP Vision 2050.

He said the government is taking all possible measures in meeting the energy shortage in the country, including nuclear energy.

Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Finance Mr Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood and DG strategic plans division (SPD) were also present during the meeting.
