KARACHI:

The Pakistan U14 tennis team reached the quarter-finals of the World Team Tennis Championships as they registered a 3-0 win against Saudi Arabia in Kuching, Malaysia.

Muhammad Shoaib defeated Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Tawfeeq 6-3, 6-3, while Huzaifa Abdul Rehman outplayed Qassim alObaidan 6-0, 6-1. Both Huzaifa and Shoaib also defeated the Saudi pair 6-4, 6-1 in the doubles rubber to win the tie. The team, however, lost to Uzbekistan 3-0, but that did not prove to be an obstacle for the qualification for the quarter-finals in Group A. They will now play third seeds Syria on Sunday. Meanwhile, Philippines, Yemen and Singapore also qualified for the quarter-finals.
