According to initial reports, the fire initially caught on the straw houses in the slums and then spread to far out areas.

Rescue teams and ambulances reached the scene shortly after and tried to control the fire. No casualties were reported.

However, the fire brigade could not make it to the scene on time due to the tight security and traffic caused by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to Karachi.

Many homes in the slum were also destroyed and two children reportedly went missing during the fire.
