Judicial huddle: Three LHC additional judges denied extension

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) declined on Friday to further extend the services of three additional judges of Lahore High Court (LHC), whose tenure expires next month.

According to sources, these additional judges are Justice Shah Khawar, Justice Sikandar Zulqarnain Saleem and Justice Shahzad Mazhar. Likewise, LHC additional judge Justice Shoaib Saeed is retiring on March 17.

After exit of these four additional judges, the strength of LHC judges will be reduced to 53, sources said.



The commission took the decisions at its meeting held to consider the confirmation of 14 additional judges of LHC and two judges of Peshawar High Court (PHC). Chief Justice Nasir ul Mulk chaired the JCP meeting.

Sources said that the commission has proposed the confirmation of four additional judges namely Justice Atir Mahmood, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh. These additional judges are working since April 2013.

The JCP has also given one-year extension to six additional judges of LHC namely, Justice James Joseph, Justice Zafarullah Khan Khakwani, Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, Justice Shahid Jameel Khan and Justice Faisal Zaman Khan, sources said.

They also said that the commission has recommended the confirmation of two PHC additional judges, Justice Syed Afsar Shah and Justice Muhammad Daud Khan.
