KARACHI:

The director of school education for Karachi, Abdul Wahab Abbasi, and an aide were remanded to jail custody till March 5 by the anti-corruption court on Thursday.

Both the accused were arrest by the Sindh Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) a day earlier for their involvement in the 'massive embezzlement' of government funds.

On the ACE's separate application requesting to seal the bank accounts of the accused, the anti-corruption court judge, Gulshan Ara Chandio, served notices to both prosecution and the defence to appear in court on Friday.

"The ACE personnel, after getting reliable evidence of his involvement in millions of rupees of corruption, raided the office of the director on Wednesday evening," ACE director Asif Aijaz Shaikh told The Express Tribune. "Abbasi, along with an aide, Sagheer Wasti, were arrested and an FIR No 10/15 was registered by the ACE for incurring the loss of an estimated Rs5 billion to the public exchequer."
