Torture of a maid

Letter February 25, 2015
Domestic servants, specially those under age, are most susceptible to this barbaric treatment by their employers

LAHORE: This refers to the news story regarding the torture on an 11-year-old maid by her employer, an 18th grade officer working in the audit and accounts department of the federal government. Officials of the Child Welfare and Protection Bureau (CWPB), who had recovered the innocent child, witnessed marks of torture and violence on the girl’s face and other parts of her body.

As a nation we will have to stand up to raise our voice against the use of violence in every sphere of life. Domestic servants, specially those under age, are the most susceptible to this barbaric treatment at the hands of their employers. Such acts of cruelty are committed because of pride and egoism.

This culture of arrogance and pride, the culture and practice of disgracing the less-privileged class will never come to an end till we keep on placing notices on the entrances of clubs and restaurants that maids, servants and pets not allowed inside the restaurant.
