The legal fraternity in Khairpur boycotted court proceedings on Wednesday and banned the entry of the police in the court premises.

The protest was held against the anti-corruption police who had beaten up two lawyers in a bid to arrest them on Tuesday.

Some lawyers were sitting at a hotel opposite the district and sessions court, when anti-corruption officer Taj Wassan raided the hotel along with his team and tried to arrest two lawyers, Bakht Rajpar and Ashraf Gopang.

A scuffle ensued as the lawyers resisted and the anti-corruption officials started beating them up. Their colleagues rushed to the rescue and forced the officials to leave.

On the other hand, A-Section police station SHO Aamir Khan reached the spot arrested the anti-corruption officer. SHO Khan said that Wassan went to the district and sessions court on Wednesday and apologised, after which the lawyers called off their protest. Wassan was not available for comments.
