KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party on Wednesday decided to remove senior leader and former home minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza from the party's central executive committee (CEC) -- an apex forum of the party to make the decisions.

This decision has been made following Mirza’s outburst against PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

Sources in the party told The Express Tribune that a meeting of the party will be convened at Bilawal House today in this regard. During the meeting they will also discuss senate elections and an alliance with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Mirza, along with PPP senior leader Makdhoom Amin Fahim and Qadir Patel, have left for London to meet PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He had announced that he would brief the chairman of his party about those PPP leaders who have defamed the party.

Sources in the party said initially, a show-cause notice would be served to Mirza by suspending his membership, and that later, he would be removed as a member.

Earlier, Mirza had disclosed that there were serious differences between Bilawal and his father Asif Zardari over running the party as well as affairs of the Sindh government.

“Zardari is running the Sindh government as a business enterprise. No one else but Bilawal is our leader. I am going to convince him to return to the country and lead the party,” he said before leaving for London

The PPP announced to disown Mirza, in reaction to his statement,
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said, “The allegations leveled by Mirza reflect his personal disagreement with the party. He is no more a leader of the party.”
