KARACHI:

A few hours after the devastating attack on an imambargah in Shikarpur on Friday, an alliance of religious and political parties demanded that martial law be imposed in the province to curb the rising tide of terrorism.

"Our prime concern is security and peace," said Jafria Alliance Pakistan's chief Allama Abbas Kumaili. "If the democratic government fails to deliver and we can get these fundamental rights under a martial law then so be it," he said, while addressing a press conference at his residence in which he also announced a province-wide strike on Saturday as well as three days of mourning. He was flanked by leaders Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Markazi Tanzeem-e-Aza, Imamia Students Organisation and Majlis-e-Zakireen-e-Imamia, who appealed to the traders, transporters and citizens to give a strong message to the Sindh government by voluntarily supporting the strike call.

MWM leader Ali Hussain added that target killings and violence in the province continued unabated while people are left at the mercy of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and its affiliated terrorist outfits. "The Sindh government is directly responsible for these killings as well as the worsening law and order situation," he said. "There is a need to carry out military operations against the terrorists throughout the country. It is the only solution." The leaders requested the military leadership to shift the people injured in the attack to Karachi in the C-130 airplanes so that they can get better treatment.

They need a separate province. Altaf once he wakes up from his well fed slumber should be demanding a separate province.
